It’s all led up to graduation day, but what are you supposed to do with that hood? Make things easier on you and your faculty advisor by following these steps to properly drape, carry and hand off your hood. Special thanks to our guest stars, Jim Mielke and Helen Sangster!

We hit the beach to find out what made our students choose their majors!

Our habitat is about more than just spaces to learn, grow and work. So much of what makes the College unique is the people who inhabit our spaces. Throughout her time at KU, Director of Undergraduate Studies and University Honors Lecturer Mary Klayder has served as a mentor to her students with hundreds sitting in the wicker chair in her office to receive advice. See how Mary has turned her office into a welcoming space on campus for students.

As the #HeartofKU, the College inhabits spaces across our campus. See where we learn, create and change the world. Explore our habitat.

Home to the Department of Visual Art, Chalmers Hall features five floors of studios and creative work spaces for students to study their medium. Check out the latest edition of Habitat to learn more about this artistic oasis.

In fall 2017, the KU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences recognized Ambassador Delano Lewis with its Distinguished Alumni Award. It is the highest honor bestowed upon graduates of the College. Our Visual Arts graduate, Trish Nixon fills us in on what inspires her creative process.

For 50 years following the 1955 murder of Emmett Till, there was not a single commemorative marker in the Mississippi Delta. Despite the fact that the murder incited the Civil Rights Movement, there were no roadside markers, no museums, no monuments... nothing. Since 2005, however, granting agencies have invested $5.5 million in the creation of an entire commemorative infrastructure. There are now three museums, 10 roadside markers, an interpretive center, a restored courthouse, and a
smartphone app. In this presentation, Dave Tell shares the inside story of how these museums, roadside markers, and interpretive centers finally came into existence. It is a story of backroom deals, extreme poverty, family rivalries, bald-faced lies, and old-fashioned politics. Above all, it is the story of how particular people have invested time, energy, and money to ensure that certain versions of the story of Till’s murder are remembered while other versions are forgotten. You may not learn the true story of Till’s murder in this class, but you will certainly learn who wanted the lies to be remembered, and why. This class is based on professor Dave Tell's own on-site research in the Mississippi Delta and 10 years of writing about the memory of Emmett Till’s murder. Presented by University of Kansas professor of Communications Studies, Dave Tell during 2016's Mini College.

After her professor, Bob Hurst, recommended she apply for a position working on his documentary, third-year film & media studies student Bailey Dickman found herself on location in Garden City, Kan. There, she and the rest of the film crew worked together to put a spotlight on the city and its diverse populace. Learn more about her hands-on experience working side-by-side with the College’s faculty.

We celebrate and find out what lies ahead for our 2016 graduates!

A new generation of electronics made out of plastics (technically called organic semiconductors) has been developed rapidly over the last two decades. This new class of materials has many advantages. For example, it is flexible, inexpensive to manufacture
and can be integrated onto various surfaces. Indeed, electronic devices can be printed on a paper similar to how we print newspapers, or it can be painted onto the surface of
a building. Products using these new technologies have already emerged from the market, including ultraflat OLED televisions and flexible solar cells. In this presentation,
we will discuss the basic physics, uniqueness, and the applications of these new materials. In particular, how these technologies would be used to reduce the cost for generating clean energy and to provide low cost healthcare and medical solutions will be
overviewed. Presented by Wai-Lun Chan, assistant professor of physics and astronomy at The University of Kansas during 2016's Mini College.

We check in our students to see what tips they would pass on to their younger selves.
